Just a heads-up: this updated report is currently only available on the Growth Plan. We'll make it available to everyone soon!
The Remittance Report provides a complete breakdown of all remittance amounts in a period.
A. As with the General Ledger report, this is created by closing the period. To do this, go to Actions.
B. Select End of Period.
C. Or, you can select Yes, close period when you see this reminder after starting a new pay run.
Since it is generated only upon closing the period, this report may not accurately represent the remittances owed in your company's remittance period. For example, if you are a monthly remitter and have closed the period after 6 weeks of running payroll, the report will show the entire amount owed since the last time you closed the period. Of course, this would mean the report over-reported the amount owed for that period.
With this in mind, if you are remitting manually and wish to use this report, please be sure to close your period regularly – either according to your remittance frequency or after each pay run (if integrated with accounting software). For more information on closing your remittance period, please see our guide, When should I close my remittance period?
Although closing after each run would under-report the amounts, you can easily reconcile by adding up the reports (rather than trying to break out multiple pay runs out of a larger report).
Alternatively, we also recommend using our Pay Run History report if remitting manually. You can filter and select only the pay runs for which you owe remittances during a given period.
Note: if you’re tired of remitting manually, PaymentEvolution can help! Register for ePay Direct Deposit to have us remit your CRA/MRQ remittances automatically:
Using the Remittance Report
D. Date Created: This is the date the report was created. It also represents when the period was last closed.
E. Reporting Date: These are the ‘to’ and ‘from’ dates for the reporting period (between two-period closures). The end date of one period will always be the same as the start date of the next report.
F. Total Remittance: This is the total amount of tax remittance owed to CRA/ MRQ for the stated period. In some cases, it may not show. View the report, and the data will then be transferred to your grid in most cases.
G. Ellipses: Click this option to view or download the file in PDF format. You can also click anywhere on the record to view the report.
We can now see a complete breakdown of the amounts paid, including the company's CPP and EI portions. If you are located in Quebec or have employees whose province of employment is Quebec, you will also see a complete breakdown of Quebec amounts (QPP, QPIP, etc.) at the bottom of this report.
